Truly one of a kind 1919 Dunglop 1 Golf Ball. Turned and trued from Vermont Holstein-Friesian Cow dung. Vermont Dairy farmer Ulysses P. Willoghby, an avid golfer and amateur inventor, fashioned the Dunglops from materials close at hand on his productive dairy farm. The Dunglop Ball caught on with better players during the 1920 Golf Craze of New England. Short game golfers prized the Dunglop's feel and true roll. The Dunglop seemed to possess a natural affinity for ending up, "in the hole" when putted or chipped (though this uncanny attribute was never scientifically verified). However, the mystique of the Dunglop attracted golfers far and wide to play it and Willoghby had his hands full keeping up with demand for the Dunglop. At one point, Willoughby employed 12 of his 15 children to fashion, roll and true the Dunglops after their chores and schoolwork were done.
Unfortunately for Willoughby, improvements in clubs (the Dunglop was never a "long game" ball and had a tendency to disintegrate when struck soundly by a mashie or niblick) and a USGA rule change in 1921 (specifically barring golfers from replacing a ball on the green with a Dunglop) caused the Dunglop to fall out of favor with golfers and drove the Dunglop Company out of business.
